Stockholm, Sweden

In total, EA Sweden intends to recruit the equivalent of a full-time job. This can be done by hiring a full-time employee or two part-time employees. Deciding whether one or two people are recruited will depend on the candidates who are applying. Here you will find the full-time job advertisement as Vice-General Secretary.

Our organization and community is growing, therefore we are looking for staff at our office in Stockholm. We are looking for someone who wants to help Effektiv Altruism Sweden continue to expand and be an important part of our continued development, including through our community building and administrative work.

We are currently looking for two people who can work part time with being responsible for important functions for our rapidly growing community in Sweden, especially our community building work, communication and administrative work. We are a smaller organization and will thus adapt the role based on the candidate, with the opportunity to gain more responsibilities.

Not sure if you would like these roles or want to find other ways to get involved? Welcome to send in an application anyway, or contact us directly!

About Effective Altruism Sweden

Effective Altruism Sweden is the Swedish organization within the global effective altruism movement. We work to ensure that more people know and use effective altruism’s ideas and tools to increase their positive impact on the world. We do this by helping people and organizations identify how they can contribute to improving the world as much as possible - based on research and established methods - and then acting on this knowledge.

Our current work currently has two focus areas: community building and projects. In community building we intend to create a community with people with strong motivation to improve the world and deep knowledge of how to do this in the best way. We also offer advice and inspiration for companies, organizations and institutions on how to best use their resources to achieve as much world improvement as possible. We run the Project Future, an initiative to increase the long-term perspective of Swedish politics, including through the establishment of a cross-political network for future generations in the Riksdag. We also coordinate an entrepreneurial network and 7 local effective altruism groups around the country.

Effective Altruism Sweden works for a better world through various projects, but sees that our biggest contribution is to continue developing our community with capable capable people who want to use their resources - donations and careers - to contribute to a better world. In community building we intend to create a growing community with people with strong motivation to improve the world and deep knowledge of how to do this in the best way.

Want to know more about effective altruism, take a look at this video, this one, or read this text. Our thoughts on community building are strongly inspired by the Center for Effective Altruism’s strategy. Read more about this here.

About the role: Head of Community

We are looking for someone who can take responsibility and develop our work with community building, but we are open to candidates who take other areas of responsibility (for example, as project manager for one of our projects, communication and outreach work).

We believe you are passionate about effective altruism and helping others improve the world as much as possible. You are outgoing, responsible and good managing several tasks.

You will be part of a smaller team, consisting of our full-time secretary general, an additional employee, board, our local groups around Sweden and our active volunteers. You will also become part of an international network of EA community builders and effective altruists.

Recruitment criteria

We consider the following criteria to be the most important:

  • A good understanding and strong commitment to effective altruism. The candidate should be well-motivated to use his career to improve the world as much as possible.

  • You can run projects and be responsible for events, and can / want to learn how to build a community

-Organized, with the ability to run several projects simultaneously and work in teams. Can work independently and solution-oriented, with great ownership.

-Be able to communicate well both in text and in speech in Swedish as well as English, especially regarding effective altruism

  • Suitable for Effective Altruism Sweden’s entrepreneurial culture

  • Shows epistemic virtues, eg ability to reason and discuss in a constructive manner

Fulfillment of these criteria is an advantage:

  • Experience and good ability to organize and hold events

  • The candidate would advantageously develop into one of our career coaches. Interest and / or experience of leadership or mentoring is thus merit.

  • Experience of CRM systems

About the role: Head of Administration

We are looking for someone who can be responsible for one of the core functions of the business, the administrative work. As EA Sweden grows, this function becomes increasingly critical, and increasingly time-consuming. We are looking for you who are orderly, detail oriented. You may have experience of working administratively in a smaller organization before - however, this is not a requirement. If you have no previous experience of administrative work (eg bookkeeping, documentation of processes, etc.) then this is something the organization can teach you, we welcome you to search anyway. You will work close to the Secretary General and receive support from EA Sweden’s economic and legal advisers.

If you are interested in other tasks besides these, we are open to adapting the service to include additional tasks (for example, as project manager for one of our projects, communication and outreach work).

Recruitment criteria

We consider the following criteria to be the most important:

  • Experience or capacity to learn to carry out administrative work within the non-profit association

  • Understanding and commitment to effective altruism. The candidate should be motivated to use his career to improve the world as much as possible.

  • Suitable for Effective Altruism Sweden’s entrepreneurial culture

  • Shows epistemic virtues, eg ability to reason and discuss in a constructive manner

Other information

Both services are fixed-term contracts of 6 months, which can lead to extension and additional responsibilities within the organization. When the services are part-time, they are advantageously combined with other commitments, such as studies or other part-time work. Exact scope of work is decided in consultation with the employee, but we believe that 8h to 24h of the week is realistic.

The salary will be set in consultation with the employee, among other things in relation to their previous experience, and based on Stockholm’s median salary, adjusted for working hours.

Effective Altruism Sweden is based in Stockholm and has a seat at Norrsken House at Birger Jarlsgatan 57C. The employee should work in the same place. However, we are flexible in terms of working hours.

The criteria listed above give us an indication of which candidate is most suitable. You are more than welcome to apply even if you do not meet all the requirements. If you are unsure if you are looking for, please contact us!

We are currently seeking funding for the role and will keep all applicants informed about the result. There is thus uncertainty about the financing of the role ahead. However, based on current information, we believe that it is highly probable that funding will be secured.
