Giving What We Can (GWWC) is looking for a Head of Content to help us inspire donations to the world's most effective organisations and build our effective giving community.

Giving What We Can members have already donated more than $200 million to charity, and have pledged to donate more than $2 billion more. Additionally, our website reached half a million people in the past 12 months, many of whom are looking for advice on where to donate. You would be helping to increase the reach and quality of our communications in an effort to increase donation volume, donation effectiveness, and community engagement.

In this role, you would be planning and executing our content strategy across all our channels and providing input on the communications side of our research, marketing, events, and website.

This is the perfect role for someone who wants to use their communications skills to have a big positive impact on the world. You will have lots of freedom and creative control to inspire people to take meaningful action to help others.

You would report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with the rest of our team  of staff, contractors, volunteers, and members.

Location
Remote with the possible option of working out of the CEA office in Oxford

Responsibilities
  • Manage the day to day production of high-quality content across our existing and new channels (e.g. website, newsletter, social media, YouTube, podcast)
  • Using your knowledge of Giving What We Can's mission to plan and execute a content strategy that effectively increases awareness and comprehension of effective giving
  • Ensure that all our content is on-brand, clear, and compelling
  • Responsible for maintaining our brand guides and style guide
  • Writing and editing website copy for our dashboard and marketing pages
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of different content-marketing approaches
  • Help writing pitches to external organisations (e.g. pitching to journalists, putting forward GWWC members/team as guests for podcasts)
  • Working with members, staff, and external stakeholders on collaborative projects

You are excited about effective altruism, effective giving, and using our resources to significantly improve the world. You have an interest in a variety of cause areas, demonstrated good judgement, and desire to produce high-quality content to best advance the Giving What We Can mission. You demonstrate skills and capabilities in producing clear and compelling content. You have an appetite to try new things, be open to feedback, and seek to measure the impact of your work so that you can improve your craft.

Salary, benefits and
 location
We have a mild preference for a full-time role but are very open to part-time and job-share applicants.

Full-time salary for candidates in Oxford is £33,000-£56,000 depending on experience, with some flexibility above this range for an exceptional candidate. Salary will be pro-rata for part-time candidates. Salaries for candidates who prefer to work remotely will be decided based on location and skills.

UK benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, flexible work hours, a £1,000 annual training budget, extended parental leave, ergonomic equipment, a 3% pension contribution, and 25 days of paid vacation. We have similar benefits in the US.

Location is flexible, provided the candidate can attend regular meetings compatible with various time zones.

We do that by advocating for effective giving and managing a community of effective givers (most have pledged to give 10% of income to the most effective organizations). We support members in their commitments to helping others effectively with their donations. We aim to create a culture where people are inspired to give more and give more effectively.

Example paid work
 trial
After reviewing the initial applications we will invite some candidates to complete a short paid work trial. The duration will be less than 15 hours of work and will involve tasks similar to those you will perform on the job. For example, the trial may involve:

  • Pitching a piece of content with a draft structure
  • Producing a first draft of a piece of content
  • Suggesting a content marketing campaign
